Oregon Firefighters Free Dog Trapped in Tree Stump Roots

When Millie the Boston terrier squeezed into the roots of a tree stump on May 13, she couldn't get herself back out. What started as canine curiosity quickly turned into a distressing situation for the little dog.

Junction City Fire & Rescue responded to the unusual call with two engineers ready to help. Rhett Powers and Kennedy Zaragoza arrived to find Millie stuck tight in what the department classified as a confined space emergency.

The firefighters assessed the situation and got to work freeing the trapped terrier. Using their training in extrication, they carefully maneuvered Millie out of the tangled roots without injury.

The Junction City Police Department also arrived on scene to assist with the rescue operation. Having multiple responders ensured Millie could be freed safely and efficiently.
