Oregon Reopens $8.5M Electric Vehicle Rebate Program

Good news for anyone who's been eyeing an electric car: Oregon just reopened its popular rebate program that puts thousands of dollars back in your pocket when you choose zero-emission transportation.

The state's Clean Vehicle Rebate Program launched Tuesday with $8.5 million available for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. Depending on your income, you could get between $1,500 and $7,500 back on an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle purchased or leased between August 25 and November 4.

Here's how it works. Standard rebates offer up to $2,000 for a new electric vehicle and $1,500 for a plug-in hybrid. Even electric motorcycle riders can get $375 back.

But the program really shines for moderate and lower-income Oregonians through its Charge Ahead Rebate. Qualifying families can receive up to $7,500 for a new electric vehicle or $4,000 for a used one. A family of four earning $132,000 or less qualifies, making clean transportation accessible to more people than ever before.

The eight-year-old program has already transformed Oregon's roads. More than 42,500 rebates totaling nearly $140 million have helped residents make the switch since 2018. The impact shows: zero-emission vehicles now make up 7% of all registered vehicles in Oregon, up from almost nothing a decade ago.

Perhaps most telling? More than half of past recipients said they wouldn't have bought their electric vehicle without the rebate. That's real proof the program removes financial barriers to cleaner choices.

Transportation currently ranks as Oregon's largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Every electric vehicle on the road means cleaner air for communities and real progress toward climate goals. The state aims for zero-emission vehicles to represent 25% of registered vehicles by 2030.

Applications stay open until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on November 4, and you have six months from your purchase date to apply. State officials encourage applying early since these funds typically go fast. If money runs out, approved applicants join a waiting list for payment in spring 2027.
