Oregon Rescuers Save Dog Trapped in Freezing Pond

A scared dog trapped in freezing pond water kept fighting for survival until Oregon rescuers found her with a drone and gave her a second chance at life.

On February 28, the Happy Valley Police Department and Clackamas Fire Department rescued the dog from a one-acre retention pond filled with blackberry bushes, cattails, and waist-high water. The pup, now lovingly named Sweetie by her rescuers, had wandered into the enclosed area and couldn't find her way out.

Sweetie stood shivering in nearly two feet of water, hidden in thick brush where rescuers couldn't see her. The fire department deployed a drone with thermal imaging technology to locate her exact position in the dense vegetation.

The frightened dog evaded several rescue attempts before first responders finally reached her. They rushed her to VCA Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Clackamas, where she received treatment for superficial wounds and exposure to the cold.

By the next day, Sweetie had earned a clean bill of health from veterinarians. She even enjoyed a spa day to wash away the mud and brambles before heading to the city office, where she immediately started winning hearts.

What makes this rescue truly special is how a community rallied around a mystery dog who needed help. Nobody knows where Sweetie came from since she has no microchip or license, but that hasn't stopped people from celebrating her survival and strength.

The Happy Valley community has surrounded Sweetie with love and support as she prepares for her next chapter. Within days, she'll be available for adoption through Clackamas County Dog Services, where a lucky family will get to bring her home.

"She is incredibly sweet, loving, and will make a wonderful companion for a lucky family," the city's director shared. Despite everything she endured in those cold, dark waters, Sweetie's gentle spirit remains unbroken.
