Ottawa Women's Flag Football Wins 6th Straight Title

The Ottawa University Braves proved why they're the team to beat in women's flag football, dominating Kansas Wesleyan 27-21 to capture their sixth straight KCAC championship on April 11 in Salina, Kansas.

The win marked a historic moment for head coach Liz Sowers, who earned her 100th career victory. Her leadership has transformed Ottawa into a powerhouse program that shows no signs of slowing down.

Quarterback Anna Anderson set the tone early, connecting with Alyssa Linkous for a touchdown on the opening drive. By the end of the first quarter, the Braves had built a commanding 14-0 lead that they never fully relinquished.

Kansas Wesleyan fought back to tie the game in the third quarter, but Ottawa's offense answered immediately. The Braves put together a 66-yard scoring drive to regain the lead and added another touchdown to go up 27-14.

Anderson's performance was exceptional. She completed 28 of 34 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns, also adding a rushing score.

The defense deserves equal credit for the championship win. Kaysie Hart recorded 10 flag pulls and a pass breakup, while Olga Sotillo snagged an interception and added four flag pulls of her own.

Women's flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, and programs like Ottawa are showing young athletes what's possible. The Braves' six straight championships demonstrate the program's consistency and commitment to excellence.

The victory gives Ottawa the number one seed in the upcoming KCAC Tournament on April 24-25, which they'll host on their home field. The tournament winner earns an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament, where the Braves will look to add a national title to their collection.

With a 12-1 record and championship momentum, Ottawa is positioned perfectly for another deep postseason run.
