Paralympic Champ Nitesh Kumar Heads to Asian Para Finals

Fresh off his Paris Paralympic triumph, Nitesh Kumar is proving that champions know how to keep winning.

The Indian para-badminton star booked his place in not one but two finals at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya, Japan on Thursday. He dominated Indonesia's Imran Muh Al in the men's singles SL3 semifinal with a 21-19, 21-16 victory that showcased both composure and power.

Kumar found his rhythm when it mattered most. After edging through a tight first game, he raised his level in the second set to seal the match and move one step closer to another major title.

But the Paralympic gold medalist wasn't done yet. Teaming up with Thulasimathi Murgesan in mixed doubles, Kumar fought through a thrilling three-game battle against China's Mingpan Li and Zuxian Xiao to reach that final too.

The Ripple Effect

Kumar's success story represents something bigger than individual medals. As a 2022 Asian Para Games gold medalist in men's doubles, he's now expanding his medal collection across multiple events and inspiring a new generation of Indian para-athletes.

India's para-badminton team brought home several bronze medals on Thursday as well. Krishna Nagar, Nithya Sre, Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, and Abhijeet Sakhuja all earned podium finishes after competitive semifinal matches that showed the depth of talent in Indian para-badminton.

The performances in Nagoya demonstrate how India's investment in para-sports is paying off with consistent international success. Each medal represents countless hours of training, dedication, and the support systems that help these athletes compete at the highest level.

Kumar now stands on the edge of adding two more gold medals to his impressive collection, carrying the hopes of a nation that's increasingly celebrating its para-athletes as the champions they are.
