PE Teacher Raises 276 Orphaned Kids Over 30 Years

Bai Jian, a 52-year-old PE teacher in Liaoning province, China, has raised 276 abandoned and orphaned children since 1995. He rents a large property he calls "Dream Home," where he houses 20 to 30 kids at a time, paying for everything with his teaching salary and loans.

The children who come to Bai often arrive with nothing. Some are orphans, while others were simply abandoned by parents who couldn't or wouldn't care for them. But under Bai's care at Anshan No. 2 Middle School, they find more than just shelter.

Bai uses his background as a PE teacher to train the children in long-distance running. Many have gone on to become professional athletes, competing at levels they never imagined possible. Others have joined the People's Liberation Army, become public servants, or earned positions as university teachers.

Growing up poor himself, Bai understands what these kids face. He doesn't just provide housing and athletic training. He gives them structure, discipline, and something many have never experienced: someone who believes in them.

The scale of his commitment is staggering. For three decades, he has essentially run a full-time orphanage while holding down his teaching job. Every yuan he earns goes toward feeding, clothing, and educating children who had nowhere else to turn.
