Penn State Campus Honors 200+ Students at Excellence Night

😊 Feel Good

Penn State Greater Allegheny celebrated over 200 students at their annual Evening of Excellence, recognizing academic achievement and campus leadership. The tradition, started by alumni in 1983, continues to spotlight students who excel both in and out of the classroom.

Over 200 students gathered at Penn State Greater Allegheny's gymnasium last Thursday night for something special: a celebration of their hard work, leadership, and determination.

The Evening of Excellence has been a campus tradition since 1983, when the Penn State McKeesport Alumni Society created it to honor students who shine academically and give back to their community. More than 40 years later, that same spirit of recognition continues strong.

The evening kicked off with inductions into four academic honor societies. Thirty students joined Alpha Alpha Alpha, the first-generation student honor society, proving that being first in your family to attend college isn't a barrier but a badge of honor. Another 29 students gained membership in honor societies for psychology, criminal justice, and business.

The campus also celebrated 44 students in the honors program and 122 who made the dean's list last semester. Faculty members selected top performers in each major, from agricultural sciences to social work.

Monjeana Henderson emerged as a standout, earning recognition in psychology, the EPIC Community Award for first-generation students, and the prestigious Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award. She'll graduate this month as one of 19 students receiving the Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence, given to those with GPAs of 3.60 or higher.

First-year and second-year students also got their moment. Emma Campbell won awards for both student government contributions and EPIC leadership. Zachary Williams and Kody Hynes-McCutcheon were recognized as emerging leaders, showing that excellence starts early.

The Ripple Effect

What makes this celebration meaningful goes beyond individual achievement. When the alumni society started this tradition in 1983, they understood something important: recognizing student success creates a culture where everyone aims higher.

Today's honorees include international students, first-generation college students, and athletes who balanced sports with academics. Their success stories will inspire the next class of students walking through Greater Allegheny's doors.

The 56 graduates receiving degrees this month will carry forward the legacy of excellence that their predecessors built over four decades.

These students proved that with hard work and community support, anyone can excel.
