Penn State Wins 5th Straight NCAA Wrestling Title

Penn State wrestling didn't just win the 2026 NCAA Championships in Cleveland. They absolutely rewrote the record books.

The Nittany Lions claimed their fifth straight team title with a jaw-dropping 181.5 points, breaking their own record of 177 set just one year earlier. No other school came close, with Oklahoma State finishing second at 131 points and Nebraska third with 100.5.

Four Penn State wrestlers became NCAA champions on the final night. Mitchell Mesenbrink dominated his way to a second title at 165 pounds, crushing Iowa's Mikey Caliendo 20-4 in a technical fall that earned him honors as both the tournament's most outstanding wrestler and the year's most dominant competitor.

The team didn't go undefeated in the finals. Shayne Van Ness fell in an upset to Stanford's Aden Valencia 8-5, and Rocco Welsh lost a heartbreaker to Minnesota's Max McEnelly 4-3 at 184 pounds. But those setbacks couldn't dim the overall brilliance of Penn State's performance.
