Pew: 75% of Americans Now Trust Local News

Faith Restored

Americans are rediscovering faith in journalism, with trust in both local and national reporting jumping across party lines this year. Fresh Pew Research Center data shows that 75% of adults now rely on their local newsrooms for honest facts.

In an era often clouded by misinformation, millions of Americans are finding their way back to a shared foundation of factual truth. Fresh findings show that confidence in honest reporting is rebounding in every corner of the country.

According to a new Pew Research Center survey of over 5,000 adults, trust in local newsrooms has climbed to an inspiring 75%. At the same time, national news organizations gained six percentage points, with 62% of citizens expressing faith in their reporting.

Even better, this renewed goodwill bridges our deepest political divides. Half of all Republicans now express confidence in national journalism, while their trust in hometown reporting jumped five points to 69%.

Democratic trust also climbed steadily across the board, reaching 81% for local news and 73% for national outlets. These parallel gains reveal that clear facts still unite people regardless of party lines.

Young people are steering much of this encouraging shift. Trust among adults under 30 surged nine percentage points to 60%, showing that the next generation values rigorous accountability over clickbait.

Senior citizens shared in this momentum, with trust among adults aged 65 and older reaching a formidable 70%. From college campuses to retirement communities, people are rediscovering the comfort of well-researched facts.

Meanwhile, public confidence in social media chatter remained flat at just 38%. Readers across the nation are clearly choosing vetted reporting over confusing online noise.

The Ripple Effect

When communities rely on dependable news, civic participation flourishes and neighbors understand each other better. Strong local newsrooms empower citizens to solve real problems and celebrate community achievements together.

As dedicated journalists keep illuminating the facts, everyday Americans are rewarding them with the ultimate foundation for progress: their trust.
