The Serve Philadelphia VISTA Corps wrapped up its final year last month with Lightning Talks, where young volunteers shared stories of how they expanded reading programs, created job training resources, and connected struggling families with help. Tai Jeffers recruited 30 reading coaches to help kids gain confidence with books. The VISTA members recruited and managed 377,258 volunteers who logged over 720,000 hours helping their community. That army of helpers represents parents reading with kids, neighbors building playgrounds, mentors guiding job seekers, and countless small acts that add up to transformation.

The program leveraged $3.4 million in resources for anti-poverty work. When you count the value of all those volunteer hours, the total economic impact reaches $24.9 million.

But the real ripple extends beyond spreadsheets. Nikita Bharati's research on college credit access will influence education policy for years. Tristan found his career path through service. The VISTA Corps may be ending, but its DNA survives in the Philadelphia Public Service Fellowship launching this September.
