Photographer Matches 25 Dogs With Human Lookalikes
A British photographer found perfect human matches for 25 dogs and captured their resemblance in hilarious side-by-side portraits. The matching pairs, complete with similar hairstyles and expressions, turned into a popular memory card game.
What if you could find your dog's human twin walking down the street? British photographer Gerrard Gethings made it happen, creating 25 striking portrait pairs that prove dogs and their lookalikes are funnier than we ever imagined.
The project started with a simple goal: create portraits for a memory card game called Do You Look Like Your Dog? But finding the matches turned into an epic hunt across London.
Gethings first scoured social media for dogs with distinctive features. Then came the real challenge: tracking down humans who resembled them.
Only two of the 25 humans actually owned their matched dogs. The rest were strangers Gethings spotted in parks, on buses, and walking through the city.
Picture this: approaching someone to say they remind you of a particular dog breed. Gethings developed a talent for what he calls "administering dubious compliments." Without exception, people reacted positively to the unusual request.

The results are uncanny. Monica sports bright blue hair that matches Reggie the Chow Chow's plush coat, but the real magic? She matched his naturally blue tongue using blue slushies and lollipops during the shoot.
Emma's dreadlocks mirror Ralph the Hungarian Puli's corded fur perfectly. Henry and Hope both have long, windblown hair styled with fans. Jessica's fluffy white curls could belong to Buddy the Bichon Frise.
Getting each shot right required patience and creativity. Gethings explained that different breeds respond to different stimuli, from food to movement to sound. Rather than forcing expressions, he waited for natural moments to emerge.
Sunny's Take
The beauty of this project goes beyond the laughs. It celebrates the quirky connections between humans and animals while showcasing genuine human kindness. Every person who agreed to participate embraced the humor and absurdity of being told they resembled a dog. Their willingness to play along created something that brings joy to thousands of game players and social media viewers worldwide.
Even Gethings isn't immune to the comparisons. People have told him he looks remarkably like his own Border Terrier, Baxter.
The memory card game, published by Laurence King in 2018, challenges players to match the 25 pairs of lookalikes. Each duo needed to look obviously similar enough for children to recognize while remaining distinct from all the other pairs.
These portraits remind us that finding joy sometimes means embracing the ridiculous, one fluffy hairdo at a time.
