Physiotherapist Opens Pain Relief Clinic in His Hometown

Ashish Kumar spent two years working far from home before financial constraints forced him back to Mainpuri, a small district in Uttar Pradesh. Instead of giving up on his dream, he decided to bring professional physiotherapy care to a community that desperately needed it.

Kumar opened a modest clinic in a rented space, treating patients with persistent pain that medications couldn't touch. Many arrive with conditions like chronic lower back pain, sciatica, and joint stiffness that have affected their sleep, work, and daily movement for months or years.

The 2020 physiotherapy graduate combines hands-on manual therapy with electrotherapy techniques including ultrasonic treatment, TENS therapy, and cupping. His approach focuses on steady, measurable progress rather than quick fixes, working with patients over multiple sessions to restore function and reduce pain.

Getting the clinic off the ground nearly didn't happen. Kumar had saved about 60,000 rupees (roughly $720), but quality physiotherapy equipment costs far more than that. The gap between his savings and what he needed to properly equip a clinic felt insurmountable.

He discovered the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan program, a government initiative supporting young entrepreneurs, through social media. The funding he received through IDBI Bank helped him purchase the essential machines and equipment his personal savings couldn't cover.

Kumar started building his patient base the old-fashioned way with banners around town, plus an online listing so people could find him through internet searches. Word of mouth took over as patients began experiencing real improvement and telling their neighbors.

Kumar's story shows how one person with determination can fill a crucial healthcare gap in an underserved community. Physiotherapy clinics are rare in small Indian towns, leaving people with chronic pain to either travel long distances or simply live with their conditions.

Six months in, the clinic has found its rhythm with patients arriving throughout the day. Kumar now has the stable practice he worked toward, and his hometown has access to professional pain management that didn't exist before.
