Pilot Hits 300 EV Charging Stations Across America

Forget hunting for hidden chargers behind abandoned strip malls. EV drivers can now pull into familiar highway rest stops with actual coffee, clean bathrooms, and good lighting.

Pilot and Flying J travel centers just hit 300 fast charging locations across the United States, marking a major shift in how electric vehicles fit into American road trips. The network now includes nearly 1,300 individual charging stalls spread across 25 states, all positioned along major interstate corridors where travelers already stop.

This isn't just about plugging in. It's about recreating the predictable, comfortable pit stop experience that gas station drivers take for granted.

The travel center giant partnered with GM Energy and EVgo to install up to 2,000 DC fast chargers at as many as 500 locations nationwide. Most stations feature 350-kilowatt chargers with plug-and-charge technology, powerful enough for virtually every modern passenger EV on the market today.

Here's what makes this different from earlier charging networks. Instead of planning your route around wherever a charger happens to exist, you can now stop at places actually designed for travelers, grab lunch, stretch your legs, and head back out.

The Ripple Effect

This shift helps more than just car drivers. Premium electric motorcycles from companies like Zero, LiveWire, and Energica can tap into these same stations during longer rides, making two-wheeled touring more practical than ever.

Walmart is following a similar playbook, expanding its own fast charging network across the country. Major retailers increasingly see charging stations as another reason to bring customers through the door, creating a positive feedback loop that makes EV ownership easier for everyone.

The expansion signals something bigger than just infrastructure. It shows the industry finally understands that people don't just need more chargers, they need better places to charge.
