Bright pink Tesla Model Y with custom heart-shaped exhausts and unicorn-themed decorations parked in Essex

Pink Bubble-Blowing Tesla Breaks Car Culture Barriers

A bright pink Tesla that blows bubbles from heart-shaped exhausts is helping a woman crack into the male-dominated car culture. Jo King's audacious electric vehicle has become a conversation starter at car shows across the UK.

Jo King never imagined that a bubble-blowing Tesla would become her ticket into the traditionally male-dominated world of car culture. But her bright pink Model Y, complete with heart-shaped exhausts and unicorn-themed accents, has done exactly that.

The 45-year-old from West Mersea, Essex, originally purchased the £45,000 electric vehicle to save money on her London commute. What started as a practical decision quickly transformed into something far more meaningful.

King and her husband Matt spent over 100 hours designing and modifying the car together. Instead of watching television in the evenings, the couple researches car parts and modifications, building their dream vehicle piece by piece.

The Tesla now features road-legal bubble number plates, unicorn valve caps, flower petal wheel covers, and bubbles that pump out of custom heart-shaped exhausts. The number plate cleverly spells out almost "unicorn."

"You can't miss it, that's the comment we usually get," King told BBC Essex. The striking pink color gets double takes from drivers, though reactions vary from delight to surprise.

King now tours her creation at car shows nationwide. Women and children especially love the car, often approaching her in supermarket parking lots to share their enthusiasm.

Why This Inspires

King's story shows how bold self-expression can open doors in unexpected places. Women regularly tell her they wish they could customize their cars with the same confidence, but haven't dared to take the leap.

"It's very bold, very feminine," King says of the design. The pink color might not win everyone over immediately, but it starts conversations that lead to acceptance and connection.

By refusing to conform to traditional car culture aesthetics, King created her own space. Her willingness to stand out has inspired other women to consider personalizing their vehicles in ways that reflect their personalities.

The Tesla proves that breaking into male-dominated spaces sometimes requires making noise, or in this case, making bubbles. King's creativity transformed a simple commuter vehicle into a symbol of individuality and inclusion in automotive culture.

Sometimes the most powerful way to belong is to show up exactly as you are.
