Pit Bull With Rare Mutation Looks Like a Teddy Bear

A pit bull with the face of a house hippo and the flowing locks of a golden retriever is melting hearts across the internet, proving that different can be beautiful.

Theodore is no ordinary pit bull. From his forehead down, he looks exactly like the muscular, blocky-headed breed people recognize. But from his ears to his tail, he's covered in soft, feathery fur that flows in the wind like he's starring in a shampoo commercial.

The reason for his unique look is a rare genetic mutation called FGF5. While this mutation appears occasionally in other breeds, it's extremely rare in pit bulls and only happens when both parents carry the gene. The result? Theo looks like he's permanently wearing a teddy bear costume.

Before finding his forever home, Theo had a rough start. His first owner couldn't care for him and rehomed him with a friend. That friend couldn't keep him either, and Theo ended up in a shelter. Over time, he was returned six different times before Joanna Meadows decided to take him home for good.
