Poland Launches 53 MW Wind Farms Powered by Amazon Deal

Poland just switched on two wind farms that will pump 116 gigawatt hours of clean electricity into the grid every year, thanks to a partnership between renewable energy company Exus and tech giant Amazon.

The Jastrowie and Okonek wind farms, with a combined capacity of 53 megawatts, are now spinning in northwestern Poland. Amazon signed power purchasing agreements to fuel its growing network of European data centers with renewable energy.

Exus Renewables brought the projects online after months of development work in the region. The Jastrowie site generates 30 megawatts while Okonek adds another 23 megawatts to Poland's energy mix.

Poland needs these wind farms to hit an ambitious target: generating 56% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The country recently launched its first Contract for Difference auction, which secured support for the massive Baltica 9 offshore wind farm.

Pawel Szawlowski, Exus's Country Manager for Poland, celebrated the milestone as a win for multiple stakeholders. The wind farms advance Poland's National Energy and Climate Plan while helping Amazon meet its own decarbonization commitments.

Poland's wind energy push reflects a broader European embrace of renewable power. While some regions hesitate on wind energy development, European nations have created supportive policy frameworks that attract major investments.

Germany recently announced progress on its Windanker offshore wind project, adding to the continent's renewable energy momentum. Countries across Europe continue expanding wind capacity through innovative financing models and corporate partnerships.

The Amazon power purchasing agreements demonstrate how tech companies are driving clean energy expansion by guaranteeing long-term revenue for new projects. These deals give developers the financial security needed to build wind farms that might otherwise struggle to secure funding.

Poland's renewable energy transition represents a dramatic shift for a country historically dependent on coal power. Each new wind farm moves the nation closer to energy independence while creating jobs in manufacturing, construction, and maintenance.
