Police Rescue 3 Children, Bust Trafficking Ring in Ogun

Three children who disappeared from their families are back in safe hands after Nigerian police cracked open an alleged child trafficking network in Ogun State.

Detectives from the Ibafo Division rescued Christiana Olowokere, 14, Olamilekan Abdurusheed, 16, and Adeniji Rebecca, 12, during an intelligence-led operation. The team arrested three women suspected of running the operation: Kikelomo Jimoh, 36, Kayode Elizabeth, and Blessing Anochike, 60.

The investigation started when concerned citizens reported a missing child. Detectives quickly identified and arrested Jimoh, who allegedly confessed and led officers directly to Anochike's residence where all three children were found.

Police say Christiana was allegedly sold for 500,000 naira (about $320 USD). Olamilekan had run away from home before being allegedly abducted. Investigators are still piecing together how Rebecca ended up in the suspects' custody.

This rescue shows what happens when communities stay alert and law enforcement acts fast. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised his team's quick response and investigative skill, highlighting their commitment to protecting children.

The commissioner is now calling on everyone to become watchdogs for child safety. Parents, teachers, neighbors, transport workers, and community leaders all play a role in spotting warning signs like unexplained disappearances, suspicious custody changes, or unusual movements of children.

The case has moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for a full investigation. Detectives are working to uncover the complete scope of the network and identify anyone else involved in the operation.

The three children remain in protective custody while authorities work to reunite them safely with their families. The suspects are in detention awaiting further proceedings.
