£30M Powers Clean Energy Jobs in Hull and Tees Valley

Two regions with proud industrial histories are about to write their next chapter in clean energy.

Hull, East Yorkshire, and Tees Valley are receiving up to £30 million through the government's Local Innovation Partnerships Fund. The money will transform how local businesses approach industrial emissions while creating job opportunities across both regions.

The funding targets large-scale clean energy projects using carbon capture technology, hydrogen power, and sustainable fuels. These aren't distant dreams but practical solutions that businesses can implement now to reduce their environmental footprint.

Beyond just cleaner air, the investment aims to build entire ecosystems of opportunity. New manufacturing facilities, skills training programs, and supply chain development will help attract private investors who want to be part of the green transition.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall emphasized the collaborative approach behind the funding. "By working with local leaders, researchers and businesses, we can unleash transformational research and products that improve lives," she said.

The Ripple Effect

This £30 million represents more than just infrastructure spending. It's a bet on communities that have powered Britain for generations to lead the country into a cleaner future.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mayor Luke Campbell pointed to the region's existing energy expertise. "The Humber has an important role in the UK's energy system and this is an opportunity to build on that strength," he noted.

Professor Sir Ian Chapman, who leads UK Research and Innovation, recognized both regions' track records. "Tees Valley, Hull and East Yorkshire have long been home to world-class ingenuity and a proud tradition of delivering real impact from great ideas," he said.

The investment forms part of a much larger commitment. The government has dedicated £86 billion to research and development until 2030, with ten regions across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland sharing funding in 2025.
