Quincy Celebrates Cancer Survivors on June 5

Blessing Hospital Cancer Center in Quincy, Illinois is throwing a party for cancer survivors, and everyone's invited.

The free celebration happens June 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at 11th and College Streets. Cancer survivors from anywhere in the region can attend, no matter where they received treatment.

This year's theme is "Our Survivors Rock," featuring rock and canvas bag painting, games, photo opportunities, and refreshments. The event marks National Cancer Survivors Day 2026, a day dedicated to celebrating the growing community of people who've faced cancer and won.

"Cancer Survivor Day provides a way for these exceptional people to connect with each other, celebrate milestones and recognize those who have supported them," said Dr. Robert Johnson, the center's medical director and board-certified radiation oncologist.

The Ripple Effect

The numbers tell a powerful story of medical progress and human resilience. As of January 2025, more than 18.6 million cancer survivors live across the United States. That's 18.6 million people who fought one of life's toughest battles and came out the other side.

The growth continues. Experts predict that number will climb to more than 22 million survivors by 2035. Each person represents countless hours of treatment, support from loved ones, and the determination to keep going when things got hard.

Events like Quincy's celebration create space for survivors to share their stories and find strength in community. They remind newly diagnosed patients that survival isn't just possible; it's increasingly common.
