Rangers Charity Donates £10k to Veterans in Scotland
The Rangers Charity Foundation just handed £10,000 to two Scottish veterans charities that provide daily support, hot meals, and mental health services to former military members and their families. The donation marks the end of a season-long partnership that's part of over £271,000 the Foundation has given to armed forces causes.
Two Scottish charities supporting military veterans received a £10,000 boost from the Rangers Charity Foundation, splitting the donation equally to continue their life-changing work.
Community Veterans Support and Poppyscotland were chosen as beneficiaries of the Foundation's Armed Forces Fund for the 2025/26 season. Both organizations provide critical services to veterans struggling with the transition to civilian life.
Based in Glasgow's Govan neighborhood at the Pearce Institute, Community Veterans Support runs a drop-in center where veterans find hot meals, free laundry, and peer support every weekday. The center also offers emergency food parcels, financial assistance, housing help, and expert referrals for those in crisis.
"In almost 13 years, our ambition has never changed: to meet the needs of any veteran who walks through our doors," said David Devenney, Director of Community Veterans Support. "This award will help continue our work of holistically supporting our veterans and their families."
Poppyscotland focuses on helping current and former Armed Forces members with mobility issues, housing challenges, and mental health support. The charity provides financial assistance and specialized services for those adjusting from military to civilian life.
Danny Röhl, who helped present the donation, emphasized the importance of backing veterans. "I think it is really important that we show our support for the armed services and veterans," he said, thanking supporters who made the donation possible through their backing of the Foundation.
The Ripple Effect
This £10,000 donation represents just one piece of the Rangers Charity Foundation's commitment to military causes. Since signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2016, the organization has donated over £271,000 to veterans' charities.
The Foundation became the first club charity in the UK to receive the Armed Forces Covenant's Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence in 2019. Previous beneficiaries include Erskine (over £57,000), ABF The Soldiers' Charity (£40,000), and smaller grants to Combat Stress, SSAFA, and other veteran support organizations.
Foundation Chief Executive Connal Cochrane noted that the donation "represents just one aspect of our work throughout the year where we recognize the dedication and sacrifice of armed services personnel and veterans."
Every day, veterans walking through the doors of these two charities will benefit from services paid for by thousands of football supporters who gave what they could.
