Red Sox Foundation Awards $80K to Lee County Students

The Boston Red Sox Foundation is giving away $80,000 in college scholarships to Lee County, Florida students who prove that good grades and good deeds go hand in hand.

Starting now through January 11, 2027, students from all 15 public high schools in Lee County can apply for $5,000 scholarships. One additional scholarship is available for students attending charter or alternative learning schools in the county, bringing the total to 16 awards.

The foundation is looking for students who shine in the classroom and show up for their communities. Scholarship recipients can use the funds at any two-year or four-year college or university.

These scholarships don't appear out of thin air. They're funded entirely by the annual Swings for the Sox Golf Tournament, where local golfers tee off for a good cause.

The Ripple Effect

Since the tournament began, Swings for the Sox has raised more than $773,000 for local charities. Of that impressive total, $688,000 has gone directly into helping Lee County students pay for college.

That means dozens of local students have already walked across graduation stages debt-free, thanks to golfers who spent a day on the green. Each $5,000 scholarship covers textbooks for multiple semesters, reduces student loan burdens, or even pays for an entire year at a community college.

The program shows how a single community event can transform into years of educational opportunity. Every swing creates a ripple that reaches far beyond the golf course.

Students can download applications at redsoxfoundation.org/leecountyscholarship and submit them to flscholarships@redsox.com. Sixteen more students are about to get the financial boost they need to chase their dreams.
