Reddick Wins Daytona 500 After Son's Cancer Recovery

Tyler Reddick crossed the finish line at the Daytona 500 on Sunday and asked his team to confirm it again and again because he couldn't believe what just happened.

The 30-year-old NASCAR driver had endured one of the toughest years of his life. His youngest son, Rookie, underwent surgery last October to remove a kidney tumor, adding family stress to an already difficult 2025 season without a single win.

But on Sunday in Daytona Beach, Florida, everything changed. Reddick led only the final lap, steering clear of two crashes and passing Chase Elliott in the final stretch to claim the biggest victory of his career.

The celebration in Victory Lane looked like an awards show. NBA legend Michael Jordan, co-owner of 23XI Racing, embraced team members while NFL star Puka Nacua jumped into photos and got doused with beer by the celebrating crew.

Hall of Fame driver Kurt Busch stopped by to congratulate the organization that gave him his final ride. Reddick hoisted the massive Harley J. Earl Trophy alongside Jordan, who compared the feeling to winning an NBA championship.

The best part? Rookie was there to see it all. Reddick reported his son had recovered well and was present with his older brother Beau for the Victory Lane festivities.

Reddick's crew chief Billy Scott said the team worked hard in the offseason to leave 2025 behind. They had honest conversations about what went wrong and committed to starting fresh in 2026.

The win represented more than just checking a box. It showed that even after seven near-misses last season and genuine family hardship, persistence pays off.

"To get through all that and here we go, it's 2026, and go race," Reddick said. "We're reset, we're ready to go."

For 23XI Racing, which launched in 2021, this marked their first Daytona 500 victory. The relatively young organization proved they could compete at NASCAR's highest level on its biggest stage.

Reddick slid his No. 45 Toyota through the infield grass in pure joy after crossing the finish line. That celebratory swoop captured a father's relief, an athlete's redemption, and a team's triumph all at once.
