Rescue Squad Saves Dog After 300-Foot Slide on Ice

When Bailey the dog stepped outside on January 26, she had no idea the ice would send her sliding nearly 300 feet down her owners' property in Overton County, Tennessee. The poor pup spent one of the coldest nights of winter trapped outside, unable to climb back up the frozen slope.

Her owners, Ron and Teri Goode, realized the next morning that Bailey was still outside and stranded. The ice covering their land made it impossible for them to reach her safely, so they called for help.

The Overton County Rescue Squad responded immediately. Training Coordinator Nate Farley, 2nd Lieutenant Blake Hargis, and Junior Member Conner Smith grabbed their rope gear and headed out. They carefully rappelled down the icy hillside to reach the frightened dog.

The rescue required the same technical skills the squad uses for human rescues. The team secured Bailey and brought her back up the treacherous slope, reuniting her with her worried family.

Teri Goode called Bailey's rescue "truly a miracle" and praised the squad members for their graciousness. These volunteers didn't hesitate to use their training and equipment to save a beloved family member, even though it meant braving dangerous winter conditions themselves.
