RI Rescue Saves 71 Parrots from Freezing NH Barn
A Rhode Island parrot rescue swooped in to save 71 birds living in dangerous conditions in an unheated New Hampshire barn. All the parrots are now safe, warm, and getting the medical care they desperately need.
Seventy-one parrots huddled in a freezing New Hampshire barn without electricity or running water finally have a second chance at life, thanks to a dedicated Rhode Island rescue team.
Rhode Island Parrot Rescue Executive Director Corrie Butler and her team made the emergency trip earlier this week after learning about the birds' dire situation. The parrots were living in an unsecured barn where a wild animal had already broken in and attacked several of them.
Butler shared photos on social media showing bird cages scattered throughout the cluttered barn, some open and some closed. The conditions were heartbreaking, but the rescue mission was a success.
The team brought home an amazing variety of birds: 66 lovebirds, two macaws, one Congo African Grey, one Amazon parrot, and one Sun Conure. Each bird now has shelter, warmth, and regular meals for the first time in who knows how long.
"They are now safe, warm and fed," Butler wrote in a social media update. The entire flock is being quarantined while receiving medical assessments and treatment, and the next few days will be critical for their recovery.
Why This Inspires
This rescue shows what happens when people refuse to look away from suffering. Butler and her team didn't hesitate when they heard about these birds in danger. They jumped into action, mobilized resources, and gave 71 living creatures a lifeline.
Rhode Island Parrot Rescue is now working with other organizations and volunteers to find permanent, loving homes for each parrot. They're also accepting donations to cover the significant medical costs of caring for such a large flock at once.
The outpouring of support from the community has already begun, proving that when animals need help, compassionate people show up.
These 71 parrots will soon know what it feels like to be truly safe and loved.
