Caoilin Quinn experienced every rider's nightmare at Sandown Park on Saturday when his horse Mondo Man stumbled badly at the final hurdle of the Imperial Cup. Quinn lost both stirrups with the finish line in sight, leaving him to guide his horse home using balance, leg strength, and sheer determination.

"He went one way and I went the other," Quinn said after the race. "Luckily I stayed aboard him and he showed plenty of guts to keep galloping."

Despite the heart-stopping moment, Mondo Man kept charging forward. Quinn described the final stretch as "going back to my roots riding ponies round the fields" as he kicked and urged his horse onward without the support of his stirrups. The pair crossed the finish line ahead of second-place Wreckless Eric, claiming victory in one of Britain's most competitive hurdle races.

Trainer Gary Moore admitted he had reservations about entering the race due to heavy ground conditions. But Mondo Man's talent won out, even when the plan fell apart at the critical moment.

"It was an amazing performance," Moore said. "I was devastated when I saw he was having to make the running, it wasn't my plan, but it was Caoilin's and he stuck to it and it came off."
