Riley Elementary Students Raise $100 for Hospital Patients

Students at Riley Elementary School proved you're never too young to make a real difference in your community.

The school's student council, made up of just 11 kids in third through fifth grade, spent weeks selling Valentine's Day candy grams to their classmates. Their hard work paid off with $100 donated directly to Good Samaritan Hospital's infusion center, where patients receive treatments like chemotherapy and dialysis.

But the students didn't stop there. They also collected 20 books to give to families with newborn babies at the hospital, helping parents start reading to their children from day one.

The candy gram fundraiser turned a simple Valentine's Day tradition into something much bigger. Students took orders, packaged candy, and delivered sweet messages throughout their school.

Student Council Sponsor Kellee Worland says she's amazed by what her group accomplishes. "This group is full of incredible, hardworking kids who are eager to give back to their community," she shared.

The Ripple Effect: This isn't the first time these young leaders have stepped up for Vincennes. The same student council has previously raised money for the local animal shelter and Shop with a Cop, a program that helps families afford holiday gifts. Their repeated commitment shows other students what's possible when you work together toward a common goal.

The donation to the infusion center means real comfort for patients going through difficult treatments. The books they collected will help new parents bond with their babies through reading, setting up countless children for literacy success.

These elementary students are proving that community service isn't about grand gestures or big budgets. It's about seeing a need and taking action, no matter how young you are.
