Rivian Hits 1,000 Charging Ports in Year of 40% Growth
Electric vehicle maker Rivian just crossed 1,000 fast charging ports across the U.S., growing its network by 40% in a single year. The best part? Nearly all stations are now open to every EV brand, not just Rivian owners.
Charging anxiety might be getting a little easier to shake off, thanks to one EV maker quietly building out a network that works for everyone.
Rivian just hit a milestone worth celebrating. The California-based electric vehicle company now operates over 1,000 DC fast charging ports at 148 locations across the United States, according to the Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center.
That's a 40% jump from last year's 700 charging stalls. Even more impressive, 44 new stalls popped up in just the last month alone, showing Rivian is finally hitting its stride after years of slower growth.
The Rivian Adventure Network started back in 2021, but development crawled along for the first few years. The stations only worked for Rivian vehicles and offered free charging to owners.
Everything changed in 2024. Rivian opened its doors to all EV brands, with 97% of stations now welcoming any electric car that pulls up.
The company powers every station entirely with renewable energy. Each charging stall features a single cable design, similar to Tesla's Superchargers, keeping things simple for drivers.

Rivian is also embracing the new NACS charging standard that's becoming the industry norm. About 166 stalls at roughly 50 locations now feature Tesla-style NACS connectors alongside the traditional CCS1 ports. Six stations even offer NACS exclusively, a bold move that reflects where the industry is heading.
This shift makes sense for Rivian's lineup. While older R1S and R1T models came with CCS1 ports, the updated versions and the new R2 SUV feature native NACS ports, eliminating the need for adapters at most charging stations.
The Ripple Effect
The real win here extends beyond Rivian owners. Every new charging station added to America's infrastructure helps solve the biggest barrier keeping people from going electric: range anxiety.
Rivian's 98% uptime last year proves something crucial. When companies own the hardware, software, and maintenance services for their charging networks, reliability improves dramatically. Fewer broken chargers means more confidence for drivers considering the switch to electric.
The expansion also creates healthy competition in the charging space. While Tesla's Supercharger network remains the gold standard, having multiple reliable options gives drivers more freedom and flexibility on road trips.
Charging costs average $0.55 per kilowatt-hour at Rivian stations, competitive with other networks. Plus, Rivian operates an additional 540 Level 2 charging ports at 208 locations for slower, overnight charging.
More stations from more companies means the electric vehicle transition becomes realistic for more families.
