Roast Raises $10K to Feed 30,000 in Texas

Laughter at a celebrity roast is now putting food on tables for thousands of families across Southeast Texas.

The Spindletop Rotary Club handed over a $10,000 check to the Southeast Texas Food Bank this week, all raised from roasting Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens at their March fundraiser. That money will create 30,000 meals for people facing hunger in the region.

The sold-out event brought together community members, law enforcement officers, and friends for a good-natured evening of jokes at Stephens' expense. But the sheriff didn't mind being the butt of the jokes when the punchline meant feeding her neighbors.

"It's not for me. It's not for the individuals who work at the sheriff's office or even the Spindletop Rotary," Stephens said. "It's for people in the community that need food, and so that makes me feel really good."

The Southeast Texas Food Bank serves a critical role in the region, distributing 9.5 million meals each year to people struggling with hunger. Every dollar raised helps stretch their reach further into communities where families need support.
