Rochester Man Honored After Rescuing Woman During Festival Brawl

When chaos erupted at Rochester's Lilac Festival last Sunday, most people stood frozen watching a woman lying on the ground. Davionte Terrel saw something different: someone who needed help right now.

The 24-year-old father of two jumped into action during a brawl at the popular Rochester event, pulling a woman to safety after she'd been knocked down in the commotion. While crowds gathered and stared, Terrel didn't think twice about stepping into the middle of the fight.

"I didn't really see how it started, I just saw the commotion, but I didn't notice the lady on the floor until I heard her yelling," Terrel explained Thursday. "You could literally just see everyone staring at her, so I just grabbed her."

His instinct to help came from somewhere deep. Growing up raised by his grandmother and mother taught him to protect women without question.

"It's probably because I was raised by my grandma and mom, so it was just instinct," he said. "I got two daughters, too."

The Ripple Effect

Terrel's selfless action didn't go unnoticed. People's Choice Kitchen partnered with seven other Rochester businesses to honor him with gift cards and other items Thursday evening.
