Roger Craig Joins Pro Football Hall of Fame After 29 Years

After waiting 29 years since his final NFL snap, Roger Craig is officially a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

The former San Francisco 49ers running back won three Super Bowl rings and earned four Pro Bowl selections during his standout career in the 1980s. He joins quarterback Drew Brees, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, linebacker Luke Kuechly, and kicker Adam Vinatieri in the 2026 Hall of Fame class.

Craig's path to Canton came through the senior player category, which recognizes retired players whose careers ended more than 25 years ago. He competed alongside former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end L.C. Greenwood for one of three senior player spots available this year.

The Hall of Fame selection process requires each inductee to receive at least 80% approval from a 50-person committee of media members. With only three votes allowed per voter and five total candidates in the senior/coach/contributor category, Craig cleared the crucial 40-vote threshold.
