Romanian Teens Break 2 Ice Swimming World Records

Two Romanian teenagers just proved that cold water can't stop a champion's heart.

Daria Silisteanu and Aissia Prisecariu broke world records in ice swimming at the European Championships, competing in water cold enough to make most people gasp. Silisteanu smashed the 50-meter backstroke record with a time of 31.34 seconds, while Prisecariu claimed the 100-meter backstroke record at 1:07.04.

Both swimmers already shine in regular pool competition. Silisteanu holds the European junior championship title and won silver at the junior world championships in the 100-meter backstroke. Prisecariu earned bronze at the European Junior Championships in the 200-meter backstroke.

Ice swimming pushes athletes to their limits in ways most of us can barely imagine. Competitors race in water temperatures that hover just above freezing, requiring intense mental focus and physical conditioning beyond standard swimming training.
