Roofing Alliance Awards $114K to 25 Students in 2026

Twenty-five students just got the financial boost they need to build careers that literally keep roofs over people's heads.

The Roofing Alliance announced its 2026-27 Melvin Kruger Scholarship recipients in August, awarding $114,000 to help students pursue degrees in construction management, engineering, and related fields. Thirteen new scholars received $59,000, while twelve returning students got another $55,000 to continue their education.

The winners come from universities and technical schools nationwide. Students like Yahir Reyes-Morga are learning 3D scanning and building information modeling at Forsyth Technical Community College, while others like Garrett Beckstead study construction management at Louisiana State University. Some attend major universities like Penn State and Ohio State, while others chose community colleges and specialized programs.

What makes this scholarship special is its reach. The program welcomes employees of roofing companies, their spouses and children, plus any student pursuing construction management or technical education, regardless of industry connection. That open door approach means talented students who might otherwise struggle to afford school can build careers in an industry that desperately needs skilled workers.

The Ripple Effect

This investment reaches far beyond individual students. Since the Melvin Kruger Scholarship program launched, 186 students have received more than $1.36 million in support. Those graduates now design safer buildings, manage construction sites, and solve the technical challenges of modern roofing systems.

"By supporting students pursuing careers in construction management and related fields, we're not only helping them achieve their educational goals—we're strengthening the workforce and ensuring the roofing industry has the talented leaders it needs for tomorrow," said Roofing Alliance Executive Director Alison LaValley. The construction industry faces a skilled worker shortage, making programs like this essential for keeping projects moving and buildings safe.

The scholarship applications for next year's program open in October, giving the next generation of builders time to prepare. For students worried about affording their education, that deadline represents hope and possibility.
