Round Rock Startups Raise $500K in 7-Week Accelerator
Round Rock's first startup accelerator just graduated its inaugural class, with five companies collectively raising over $500,000 and doubling their customer base in just seven weeks. The results came faster than organizers expected, positioning the Texas city as a serious alternative to nearby Austin.
Round Rock's gamble on startups is paying off faster than anyone predicted.
The Texas city invested $1.2 million last August to launch gBETA Round Rock, its first business accelerator program. Just seven weeks later, the inaugural class of five startups collectively raised more than $500,000, grew revenue by 10%, and doubled their customer base.
Program Manager Destin Bell said these results typically take a year. His cohort achieved them within a month of graduating.
"Those are outcomes that you typically see maybe a year after the program," Bell said. "Being able to accomplish that even a month after it ended is frankly phenomenal."
The program pairs each startup with personalized coaching, mentors, and direct access to investors. Round Rock partnered with gener8tor, a venture capital firm, to run the seven-week intensive.
Melissa Wood, founder of Formus, an AI platform that streamlines home renovations, joined the first cohort with a great product but no clear sales strategy. The accelerator helped her refine her business model and revenue plans in record time.
She tested her prototype on a single bathroom renovation in Austin late last year. The architect, interior designer, and contractor reported saving over 50% of their time and immediately brought Formus into their next projects.
That momentum generated over $200,000 in positive cash flow. Wood recently launched her beta version and plans to go fully live by the third quarter of this year.
The Ripple Effect
Bell believes this is just the beginning for Round Rock. He expects future cohorts to build on this success, gradually shifting how entrepreneurs view the region.
"I think 5 or 10 years from now, people starting their startup are going to think about Round Rock as a better alternative to Austin," Bell said.
The next cohort begins April 9 and runs through May 29. Applications close March 22, giving aspiring entrepreneurs a narrow window to join Round Rock's growing startup ecosystem.
