Rowan Family Celebrates 131st Annual Reunion in Tennessee

For 131 years straight, the Rowan family has proven that staying connected takes commitment, not just chance.

Approximately 130 Rowan family members from across the United States gathered in Hendersonville, Tennessee, on August 14-16, 2026, for their annual reunion. The three-day celebration included golf, a cookout at Sanders Ferry Park, a fellowship dinner, and a Sunday morning worship service.

What makes this gathering truly remarkable is its unbroken streak. Since the late 1800s, through two world wars, economic depressions, and societal upheaval, the Rowan family has never missed a year.

The COVID-19 pandemic tested that resolve in 2020. Rather than cancel, the family adapted by hosting their reunion virtually through Zoom, connecting relatives from across the United States and as far as Africa and Europe. In 2021 and 2022, smaller family groups gathered while linking together online.

By 2023, the extended family joyfully returned to in-person gatherings in their original reunion home of Owensboro and Daviess County, Kentucky. This year, they continued the tradition in Tennessee.

"Our reunion has never been just about coming together for a weekend," a family representative explained. "It is about preserving our family history, strengthening the bonds between generations and making sure our children and grandchildren understand the legacy that has been entrusted to them."
