Royal Wife Gifts Nigerian Valentine Babies Across State Lines

Ambassador Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi, wife of the Ooni of Ife, traveled from southwestern Nigeria to Abia State in the southeast to celebrate Valentine's Day with an unusual gift list: newborn babies and their mothers.

The royal mother visited multiple hospitals on Saturday, distributing gift items to families welcoming Valentine's Day babies. The outreach marked the 9th year of her Hope Alive Initiative's Valentine Newborn program, carried out in partnership with Abia State's First Lady and Ministry of Health.

Abia First Lady Priscilla Otti joined Ogunwusi on the hospital visits, calling the gesture a "handshake across the Niger." The phrase referenced the Niger River that geographically separates Nigeria's southwest and southeast regions, highlighting how the visit bridged traditional ethnic and regional boundaries.

The royal visitor toured Abia State Teaching Hospital in Aba, Aba General Hospital, Abia State Specialist Hospital in Umuahia, and Amaeke Health Centre, among others. At each stop, mothers like Ngozi Onyejiuwa, Uzoma Ejike, and Prisca Osuagwu received gifts and expressed gratitude for the unexpected Valentine's surprise.

Ogunwusi explained that her foundation focuses on supporting vulnerable populations, particularly mothers and children. She praised Governor Alex Otti's administration for prioritizing healthcare and urged continued investment in programs benefiting residents.
