Runner Chases World Record as Wally for Homeless Youth

George Anthony isn't just running the London Marathon on April 26. He's chasing a world record in full Where's Wally costume to support homeless young people in Cardiff.

The 25-year-old from Monmouth needs to finish in under two hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds to claim the title of fastest marathon runner dressed as a cartoon character. The current record belongs to Edward Ditmyer, who ran Detroit's marathon as Charlie Brown.

Anthony has run marathons before, but this time he's adding stripes and a bobble hat for a powerful reason. "I've noticed that runners in costume often inspire people to donate," he said. "I wanted to stand out and make this challenge meaningful."

The cause hits close to home. Anthony's mother, Sally, has spent three decades working with The Salvation Army's Young People's Homelessness Services in Cardiff. The organization supports young people who've faced trauma and adversity, giving them shelter and hope when they need it most.

"The money George raises will support our work with young people experiencing homelessness in Cardiff," Sally Anthony said. Her son's ambitious run combines personal challenge with family legacy, turning athletic achievement into immediate help for vulnerable youth.

The London Marathon route stretches from Greenwich to Buckingham Palace, covering 26.2 miles through the heart of the city. Thousands of runners will participate, but Anthony will be easy to spot in his distinctive red and white stripes.
