Runner Solves 4 Rubik's Cubes in 5:09 Mile
British speedcuber George Scholey ran a mile in just over five minutes while solving four Rubik's Cubes without stopping the clock once. The 24-year-old is now waiting for Guinness World Records to confirm what he believes is a new world record.
Imagine running as fast as you can while your hands are busy solving one of the world's most challenging puzzles. That's exactly what George Scholey pulled off in Toronto, finishing a mile in 5:09.25 while solving four complete Rubik's Cubes.
The British speedcuber couldn't pause the timer at any point during the challenge. Every second he spent twisting a cube counted toward his final mile time, making the feat even more impressive.
Scholey shared the achievement on Instagram, summing it up simply: "Four cubes. One mile. Clock running the whole time." He's now gathering footage, witness statements and timing evidence to submit to Guinness World Records for official confirmation.
For most people, solving even one Rubik's Cube takes minutes or longer. Scholey can do it in under five seconds. His official best solve in World Cube Association competition is 4.91 seconds, ranking him fourth in the United Kingdom.

This isn't his first time combining running with cubing. At the 2024 London Marathon, he solved about 520 cubes while finishing in 4 hours and 25 minutes, grabbing fresh scrambled cubes from backpacks stationed every two miles along the course.
Why This Inspires
What makes this story remarkable isn't just the physical challenge. It's watching someone master two completely different skills and blend them into something entirely new.
Scholey already holds multiple Guinness records. In 2022, at age 20, he spent 24 hours in a London hotel room solving 6,931 cubes, averaging one every 12 seconds. He also holds the record for most cubes solved on a skateboard: 500.
Friends showed up to pace, film and time the Toronto attempt, turning what could have been a solitary challenge into a community celebration. Even without solving puzzles, running a sub-5:10 mile requires months of dedicated training that most runners never achieve.
The full uncut video will be shared once ready. Until Guinness officially confirms the record, Scholey waits, but one thing is already certain: he's shown that creativity and determination can turn an ordinary mile into something extraordinary.
