Ryan Fox Wins Open Championship as 200-1 Underdog

Sometimes the best stories in sports aren't written by the favorites. Ryan Fox, ranked 56th in the world and given 200-to-1 odds by bookmakers, just won the Open Championship with a clutch birdie on the final hole Sunday.

The 39-year-old from New Zealand wasn't on anyone's pick sheet heading into the tournament at Royal Birkdale. Most sportsbooks considered him such a long shot that a $1 bet would have returned $200.

Fox shot a stunning 62 in the third round, tying the lowest score ever recorded in a major championship. He followed that up with a solid 68 on Sunday to finish at 10-under-par, edging out world number four Cam Young by a single stroke.

Fox took home $3.2 million for the win, the biggest single paycheck of his career. That prize money more than doubled his career earnings on the PGA Tour to $12.47 million.
