Large saltwater surf pool with artificial waves in Saudi Arabia's desert ADRENA adventure district

Saudi Arabia Opens Largest Saltwater Surf Pool in Desert

🤯 Mind Blown

A massive adventure park launches March 1 in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea destination, featuring the kingdom's largest saltwater surf pool and 20+ attractions built with groundbreaking water sustainability technology. The district proves desert tourism can thrive while protecting precious resources.

Surfing in the Saudi Arabian desert just became reality, and it's doing something remarkable for water conservation.

ADRENA, a new adventure and entertainment district, opens March 1 at Saudi Arabia's Red Sea destination. The complex spans more than 20 attractions centered around water sports, extreme activities, and family fun.

The star attraction is a 215-meter saltwater surf pool, the largest in Saudi Arabia. Wave heights adjust up to 2.1 meters based on skill level, powered by advanced hydraulic generators designed to withstand saltwater corrosion. Beginners can practice on gentle swells while experienced surfers tackle bigger breaks.

But here's what makes this project truly special: every drop of water gets used wisely. The entire district operates on a closed-loop system that draws seawater in, filters and circulates it through pools and attractions, then returns it clean to the ocean. Any freshwater used for the parks gets redirected to irrigation, ensuring nothing goes to waste in this arid climate.

"Our unique adventure and entertainment district isn't just about offering thrilling experiences, it's about embodying the freedom of a coastal lifestyle," says John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global. "We've built ADRENA with sustainability at its core, demonstrating our commitment to regenerative tourism."

Beyond the surf pool, visitors can experience wakeboarding on a dedicated lake, snorkel through underwater trails, and dive in a six-meter-deep pool. Thrill-seekers have access to an overwater zip line and a 10-meter-high 'slip 'n' fly' slide. Families can enjoy a children's water play area and floating obstacle courses.

The district also features land-based activities including a skatepark, BMX pump track, and beach sports areas for football and volleyball. Accessibility shaped the design from day one, with zero-depth entry points at pools and adaptable options for bodyboarding, paddleboarding, diving, and snorkeling.

The Ripple Effect

ADRENA represents more than just entertainment infrastructure. The project demonstrates how large-scale tourism can expand into challenging environments while respecting ecological limits. The closed-loop water technology and corrosion-resistant engineering required for saltwater systems could inform future resort developments in water-scarce regions worldwide.

The Red Sea destination welcomed its first guests in 2023 and now operates nine hotels plus a private retreat. Red Sea International Airport connects the area to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dubai, Doha, and Milan with regular flights.

Red Sea Sports & Entertainment Co. will manage ADRENA alongside sister operations including WAMA for water sports, Galaxea for underwater experiences, and Akun for land-based adventures.

Desert surf parks are proving that innovation and environmental responsibility can create unforgettable experiences together.
