Saudi Arabia Unveils World-Class Tennis Centre for All Ages

A massive new tennis complex near Riyadh promises to transform how Saudi Arabia plays, trains, and watches the sport.

The National Tennis Centre at Qiddiya City features 30 courts built to international standards, including a flagship stadium with a retractable roof that seats 15,000 fans. Construction is already progressing on what will become the region's largest tennis facility, located 45km west of Riyadh.

The centre goes far beyond hosting elite tournaments. It's designed to serve beginners taking their first swing alongside professional athletes preparing for the global circuit, with six competition courts, six indoor courts, and 14 practice courts spread across the facility.

Four arenas will accommodate 33,000 total spectators, with the two largest venues featuring retractable roofs for year-round play. The multi-purpose spaces can transform from tennis courts to concert halls, expanding entertainment options for the growing city.

Designed by sports architecture firm Populous, the complex integrates green facades that blend with the surrounding Tuwaiq Mountains. The facility sits next to a championship golf course opening later this year, part of Qiddiya City's broader vision as Saudi Arabia's new capital of entertainment, sport, and culture.

The Ripple Effect

The centre supports Saudi Vision 2030's goal of increasing sports participation across all levels. Grassroots programs will introduce tennis to children throughout the Kingdom, while elite training facilities give Saudi players world-class resources to develop their skills from amateur to professional levels.

Saudi Arabia's favorable winter climate positions the centre as an attractive seasonal training base for top international players preparing for tournament seasons. The Kingdom has already welcomed major boxing matches, Formula 1 racing, and LIV Golf events in recent years.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sport, emphasized the centre reflects leadership support for developing the nation's sports ecosystem through enhanced infrastructure and talent development programs. The project joins recently opened attractions including Six Flags theme park, Aquarabia water park, and PlayMaker Studios film production hub.

A new generation of Saudi tennis players will grow up with access to facilities rivaling the world's best.
