Scottish Port Creates 180 Jobs for World's Largest Wind Farm

A Highland port is hiring 180 people to help build the world's largest offshore wind farm, bringing skilled jobs and clean energy progress to Scotland's east coast.

The new positions at Maraen Port of Nigg will support construction of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, a massive renewable energy project taking shape 80 miles off England's northeast coast. Workers will prepare turbine components at the port before ships transport them to the North Sea installation site.

Recruitment is already underway for project managers, port operators, and mechanical and electrical technicians. The roles are tied to two phases of the £9 billion wind farm, a joint venture between energy companies SSE, Equinor, and Vårgrønn.

The numbers behind this project are staggering. The 3.6 gigawatt Dogger Bank Wind Farm will generate enough electricity to power approximately six million homes when it becomes fully operational in mid-2028.

Port of Nigg sits within the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, positioning it perfectly to serve as a marshalling harbor for the wind farm's construction. The facility already boasts a highly skilled workforce and world class facilities, according to SSE Renewables.
