Scottish Skier Kirsty Muir Wins Historic Double Title

Kirsty Muir has achieved what no British woman has ever done before, claiming both the World Cup freeski slopestyle title and the overall park and pipe championship in a single season.

The 21-year-old Scot secured her historic double victory at the final slopestyle event in Silvaplana, Switzerland. Her second-place finish, with a score of 75.54 behind Switzerland's Sarah Hofflin, was enough to clinch the Crystal Globe for slopestyle with 280 points.

That podium finish marked her third consecutive top-three placement, following back-to-back victories in Aspen and Tignes earlier in the season. Combined with her third-place finish in big air, Muir accumulated 470 total points to win the overall park and pipe title by a comfortable 78-point margin.

The timing makes this victory even sweeter. Just last month at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Muir finished fourth in both slopestyle and big air, missing out on bronze in slopestyle by less than half a point.

Many athletes would have been crushed by such narrow misses on sport's biggest stage. Not Muir.

Why This Inspires

After the Olympics, the X Games champion told BBC Sport that coming so close to a medal only fueled her fire. She immediately set her sights on pushing herself and the sport forward.

"I am really excited to go and try and learn some new tricks," she said after the Games. "For the next two years I will go and do everything that I would like to do and forget about the Olympics."

True to her word, Muir didn't let disappointment define her season. Instead, she channeled it into consistent, championship-level performances that rewrote British skiing history.

At just 21, the Aberdonian has shown that setbacks can be stepping stones when you refuse to give up.
