Self-Driving Car Makes History With 6th Straight Win

A self-driving car equipped with WeRide's latest technology just made history by winning its sixth consecutive competition in China, proving that fully automated vehicles are getting closer to everyday reality.

The Chery Exeed Sterra ES, powered by WeRide's WRD 3.0 system, took first place at the Second China Intelligent Driving Competition in Tianjin this June. No other vehicle has ever achieved six straight wins in the competition's history.

This wasn't an easy victory. The competition threw its toughest challenges yet at the competing vehicles, testing everything from parking lot exits to navigating busy city streets to sliding into tight parking spaces.

Any mistake meant losing points. If a human driver had to take over even once, or if the car couldn't park itself, the score dropped immediately.

What made WRD 3.0 stand out was its seamless performance across all driving situations. While other systems use different technologies for parking versus highway driving, WeRide's system uses one unified brain that handles everything from slow parking maneuvers to complex city traffic.

The technology comes from a partnership between WeRide and automotive giant Bosch. It processes all driving decisions through a single advanced system, making split-second choices that keep passengers safe whether they're backing out of a garage or merging onto a crowded street.

The Ripple Effect

This win signals something bigger than a trophy. WeRide is already preparing to install WRD 3.0 in over 30 different vehicle models for major automakers Chery and GAC Group, with more partnerships on the way.

The company has tested its autonomous vehicles in 40 cities across 12 countries and holds permits to operate self-driving cars in eight markets worldwide, including the United States, China, France, and Saudi Arabia. That's more regulatory approval than any other autonomous driving company.
