Senator Leads 86th Monthly Cleanup at NJ's Hawk Island

A New Jersey state senator is proving that consistent action creates lasting change, one cleanup at a time.

State Senator Troy Singleton is inviting volunteers to join him on June 13th for a morning of community service at Hawk Island in Delanco. The event marks his 86th consecutive monthly volunteer project since taking office in 2018.

The cleanup runs from 10am to 12pm at 100 Vine Street, where volunteers of all ages can help restore one of Burlington County's natural gems. The senator's office will provide bags, gloves, and trash grabbers for participants.

This cleanup celebrates Great Outdoors Month by focusing on the island's newly created trails. The event will also feature the installation and unveiling of a new Hawk Island sign.

"We'll be investing our time and energy in outdoor recreation and ensuring these paths remain welcoming and accessible for all," Singleton said about the project.

The Ripple Effect

What started as a simple idea has grown into a movement of community engagement. Senator Singleton's monthly "Serve with Senator Singleton" events have attracted enough volunteers to donate more than 3,500 hours to local projects over the past several years.

The volunteer efforts span diverse needs across the community. Past projects have included indoor and outdoor cleanups, animal welfare initiatives, clothing and supply drives, painting projects, food gleaning efforts, and staffing community events.

Each month, the senator crowdsources a new team to tackle whatever challenge the community faces. The approach transforms one-time volunteers into repeat participants who see the direct impact of their work.
