Seoul's World IT Show 2026 Spotlights Physical AI

South Korea is proving that artificial intelligence isn't just about chatbots anymore. The World IT Show 2026 opened Wednesday in Seoul, bringing together nearly 500 companies to showcase "physical AI" — technology that bridges the digital world with real-world action.

The three-day exhibition at COEX features 460 companies and institutions from 17 countries across a massive exhibition space. Major tech giants like Samsung, LG, SK Telecom, and Kakao are showing off innovations alongside emerging robotics and AI startups.

The theme says it all: "Beyond Thinking to Action: AI Moves Reality." South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT organized the event to highlight how digital intelligence is now controlling robots, automating complex tasks, and solving real problems in physical environments.

The exhibition is divided into four themed halls covering AI semiconductors, global tech trends, and entertainment technology. Attendees can try augmented reality experiences that let them dance alongside K-pop idols and explore how AI is transforming everyday industries.

At the opening ceremony, awards recognized companies making AI practical and accessible. Gaudio Lab won the presidential award for developing tools that automatically handle dubbing, subtitling, and audio editing for global media. Law & Company received honors for creating an AI platform that helps people navigate legal services.

The Ripple Effect

The event isn't just about showing off cool gadgets. A global buyer consultation program connected 50 overseas buyers from 14 countries with roughly 190 Korean firms to explore export deals and investment opportunities. These partnerships could bring AI solutions developed in South Korea to markets worldwide.

The exhibition reflects South Korea's broader ambition to lead in AI-driven industries. The country is betting that physical AI — robots in warehouses, AI-powered medical devices, automated manufacturing — will define the next wave of technological progress.

"This is a meaningful platform where companies can share innovation and build new partnerships," said Ryu Je-myung, vice minister of science and ICT. The focus on collaboration signals that South Korea sees AI leadership as a team effort requiring connection between established tech giants and scrappy startups.
