Seven Para Cyclists Win Double Gold at World Championships

Seven para cyclists just proved that once isn't enough when it comes to world championships. At the 2026 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, these athletes didn't just win gold once—they swept both the time trial and road race in their categories.

France dominated the championships with 15 gold medals and 29 total medals. The USA and China tied for second place with six golds each, while Great Britain claimed fourth with three golds.

Alexandre Leaute delivered one of the most inspiring comebacks of the championships. Just five months after an April injury forced him out of European Championships, the French cyclist returned to win both the MC2 time trial and road race. These victories brought his career total to 27 individual world titles.

American Katerina Brim had a dream performance on home soil, winning both WH2 events. After dominating the 27.6km road race by 16 minutes, she reflected on social media about overcoming personal obstacles. "Standing on that start line meant facing not only the course in front of me, but also a lot of the things I've been fighting within myself," she wrote.

Her teammate Samantha Bosco, the reigning Paralympic champion, matched the achievement by winning the WC4 time trial and road race. The road race came down to a thrilling sprint finish after Bosco couldn't shake off Australia's Tara Neyland on the final lap.

Dutch rider Chantal Haenen made history by completing her third consecutive time trial and road race double in the WH5 category. She dominated both events, winning the road race by over 12 minutes.
