Attendees gather at Black Tie Bingo fundraiser for Faith and Fostering tiny home community project

Shreveport Nonprofit Raises Funds for Foster Care Tiny Homes

✨ Faith Restored

A Shreveport nonprofit brought the community together for Black Tie Bingo, raising money to build tiny homes for young women aging out of foster care. The packed fundraiser moves Faith and Fostering closer to creating a safe haven where 18-year-olds can learn life skills and build stable futures.

When foster care ends at 18, thousands of young women face an impossible choice: figure out adulthood alone or risk homelessness. Faith and Fostering in Shreveport, Louisiana is building a solution one tiny home at a time.

The nonprofit hosted its first Black Tie Bingo fundraiser Saturday night at East Ridge Country Club. Local businesses, organizations, and fellow nonprofits packed the venue for an evening of games with a purpose.

Local media personalities and community leaders stepped up as bingo callers, adding star power to the cause. Alexandra Meachum from KTAL/KMSS was among the celebrity callers helping rally support throughout the night.

Every dollar raised goes directly toward building a tiny home community off Bert Kouns. The village will provide more than just shelter for young women transitioning out of foster care at 18.

Barbara Lewis, Community Relations Coordinator, explained the comprehensive support residents will receive. "To make sure they have a safe and secure place," Lewis said. "They will come into the home and we will teach them how to care for their home, how to budget, how to get groceries, all of these things."

The program focuses on real-world skills many teens learn gradually at home but foster youth must master instantly. Residents will practice home maintenance, financial planning, grocery shopping, and everything else needed for independent living.

The Ripple Effect

Faith and Fostering has already completed phase one of the tiny home project. The successful fundraiser pushes phase two forward, bringing more young women closer to having a safe place to call home.

The tiny home model offers something traditional shelters cannot: dignity and normalcy. Each resident gets her own space while remaining connected to mentors and support systems.

The community's enthusiastic response shows Shreveport understands what's at stake. When young people age out of foster care without support, they face higher risks of homelessness, poverty, and exploitation.

Faith and Fostering's ultimate goal is simple but powerful. "When they leave Faith and Fostering, they have security," Lewis said. "We want to make sure they become independent and stable."

One bingo night at a time, Shreveport is proving that no young person should face adulthood alone.
