Shy Rescue Cat Surprises Bride by Napping on Wedding Dress

Sometimes the most precious wedding moments are the ones you never planned.

Madeline Robinson was putting on her shoes before walking down the aisle at her Southern Highlands wedding in Australia last month when something unexpected happened. Ms. Marmalade, her family's rescue cat, suddenly dashed out from hiding and curled up on the train of her wedding dress.

The sweet gesture shocked everyone in the room. Ms. Marmalade was an extremely shy kitten the family had taken in just three months earlier after friends found her abandoned in a church parking lot.

"She hadn't had very much human contact at all and was very shy, so she mostly kept to herself," Robinson told PEOPLE. The orange tabby typically only ventured out when she needed food, avoiding all the people and activity in the house.

Robinson expected Ms. Marmalade to hide during the wedding day chaos. Instead, the kitten chose that perfect moment to show trust and affection, promptly falling asleep on the bride's dress.

Wedding photographer Thomas Stewart captured the adorable scene. His photos show Robinson's delighted reaction as she bends down to pet the contented cat.

"I PROMISE you this wasn't staged," Stewart wrote on Instagram. "We suddenly heard that 'bddrrrm bdddrmm' sound of a cat playfully running along the floor. Then all of a sudden, it walked over and curled up right on her train."
