Sick Leopard Rescued in Pakistan, Headed for Recovery

A two-year-old leopard found weak and alone near a mountain stream is now getting the medical care she needs, thanks to quick action by wildlife rescuers in Pakistan.

Wildlife Department staff in Azad Jammu and Kashmir received an early morning call on Sunday about a leopard lying near Pihalian village, about 35 kilometers from Muzaffarabad. The young female appeared sick and unable to move.

A rescue team immediately traveled to the remote location and safely transported the animal to their facility. Veterinary doctors examined her and found no visible injuries, but suspected an internal illness that would require more advanced testing.

The leopard was then transferred to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board for specialized treatment. Once she recovers, wildlife officials plan to release her back into her natural habitat where she belongs.

Wildlife Minister Sardar Javed Ayoub acknowledged that the region still lacks a dedicated wildlife treatment center due to limited resources. Despite these challenges, officials remain committed to protecting wild animals and educating communities about conservation.

The minister urged citizens to report similar cases promptly and avoid harming wildlife. "Their survival is closely linked to our own," he said, reinforcing the connection between healthy ecosystems and human wellbeing.
