Singapore AI Grads Earning Up to $90K Fresh Out of School

While headlines warn of AI replacing jobs, Singapore's AI workers are cashing in on a different reality: salaries rising five times faster than the national average.

Fresh graduates landing AI roles now earn between S$70,000 and S$90,000 straight out of university. That's happening as companies race to move AI from experimental projects into real business operations.

"Companies are racing not just to experiment with AI, but to put it to work at scale," said Kirsty Poltock from recruitment firm Robert Walters Singapore. Pay for AI positions jumped 15 to 25 percent over the past year, compared to just 4.9 percent for overall wages.

The demand spans everything from AI engineering to machine learning and data science roles. Job boards are flooded with openings: 181 AI engineer positions on MyCareersFuture.sg and 139 more on LinkedIn as of early June.

But universities can't produce talent fast enough. Nanyang Technological University, ranked number one globally for AI education, graduated just 83 students with AI degrees in 2025, though enrollment has since surged to 558.

Major tech players are betting big on Singapore's AI future. OpenAI committed over S$300 million in May to build an Applied AI Lab creating 200 technical roles. Chinese giant Alibaba launched its global AI innovation hub here, while competitor Anthropic just started hiring its first Singapore-based team.

Chinese tech firms are even recruiting PhD holders from Singapore's universities to work in China, offering packages starting at S$200,000. Top AI experts leading major initiatives in Singapore can command close to S$350,000.

The Ripple Effect

The AI boom isn't just padding paychecks. It's transforming how Singapore businesses operate, from automating workflows to enhancing customer experiences.

Most roles don't require PhDs either. A solid bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or engineering, plus practical project experience, opens doors to this growing field.

Singapore is positioning itself as a commercial AI hub focused on real-world applications rather than pure research, creating opportunities for graduates who want to see their work make immediate impact.
